bangalore bomb blast | Bangalore Blast Chinnaswamy stadium: Bangalore Bomb Blast April 17

An explosion took place at one of the gates of the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore barely 45 minutes before the start of an IPL cricket match today, leaving five securitymen injured.

The blast, which occurred at 3.15pm, sparked panic in the area as the stadium was packed with nearly 30,000 spectators who had come to watch the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians.
The explosive material was hidden in a plastic bag and placed near the wall adjacent to Gate no 12 of the stadium, Bangalore police commissioner Shankar Bidari told reporters.
He called it a "minor" blast and said, "as of now, four policemen and a private security guard have been injured. The nature of the injuries are minor," Bidari said.
"It seems the explosive material was hidden in a plastic bag and placed near the wall," he said.
He said the explosives were not powerful and forensic experts have been summoned for its examination. A conclusion can be arrived at only after receiving the report, he said.
